About

astro-dither is a set of Astro components on a small WebGL engine. It draws ordered-dithered fields, a Bayer threshold over a GLSL field function, in any palette you give it. Everything ships as source you can read: no React, no hydration framework, no build plugin.

The package has six components. Dither renders Paper's animated dither shapes,DitherImage applies ordered dithering to a photograph while keeping the realimg and its alt text, DitherGradient, DitherAurora andDitherGlobe are named looks with typed props, and DitherEffect renders the procedural registry effects through one consistent API. All ordered surfaces on a page share a single WebGL2 context, pause offscreen and in hidden tabs, and respect reduced motion.

Who maintains it

astro-dither is built and maintained by Screen. The project was inspired by dithercn by Leo, and some site buttons and snippets were adapted from Starwind UI,Cult UI and Kibo UI. The shapes and image filter run on Paper Shaders.

Licence and source

The code is MIT licensed. The source lives onGitHub and Git Cafe, releases publish tonpm, and a copy-source CLI (npx astro-dither add) can drop any component's code straight into your own repo.
